Burns Scalo Real Estate has announced plans to develop Pittsburgh’s first commercial office property certified to the WELL Core & Shell standard by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The WELL Building Standard is a performance-based system measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and wellbeing. The intent of the WELL Building Standard is to bring together the best practices in design and construction with health and wellness. The standard focuses on six key elements shown to positively impact occupant health and productivity: air quality, water quality, nourishment, light, fitness, and comfort.

Burns Scalo made the choice to pursue WELL certification for The Riviera at 300 Technology Drive, inside the Pittsburgh Technology Center (PTC), to support the health and wellness initiatives of prospective tenants. Today’s leading corporation and institutions recognize the increased importance between employee happiness and productivity and are continuing to demand the workplaces they inhabit to incorporate these values. The PTC is a hub for young millennial talent, with accessibility and proximity to the University of Pittsburgh, CMU, Duquesne University, UPMC and other tech companies inside the park.

Once the building construction is complete, IWBI representatives will conduct a series of tests and inspections to ensure it meets the standards for WELL Core & Shell Compliance.
